Subject: SEM Program Application Follow Up

Dear Leslie,

We appreciate your interest in the 2020/2021 IEPI SEM Program, and we were excited that you applied to participate.  As you know, due to the deep changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the IEPI SEM Program will not be offered in 2020/2021.  However, the good news is that the RP Group together with the Chancellor’s Office is considering how to continue assisting our colleges with their SEM efforts. The SEM Project team has been exploring ways to continue offering a similar set of services (e.g., SEM coaching and professional development opportunities) to our colleges. We are currently considering the following options for services and support:

  1. A SEM community of practice which includes professional development via webinars and online workshops, coaching support, virtual SEM Academy, mid-point and final convenings, and promising practices resources.
  2. Support for a specific SEM project by a team of SEM coaches on an as needed basis.

Please note that with the changes in funding for the IEPI SEM Program means that there would be fees for services and supports mentioned in the two options. However, we anticipate that the fees would equal about the same as the cost for participating in the non-virtual SEM Program, and the fee structure would depend on the number of colleges participating, as well as the type of support the colleges are interested in receiving.

After reviewing your application and proposed project, we recognize that the above identified options for services and support might still be of interest to your college. If you believe your college might still be interested, I would like to schedule a 30 minute phone call with you to gather some additional information and investigate further your needs, interests and availability. Please let me know one to three different days and times in the next couple of weeks that we can talk more about this.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Michelle

Leslie opened the meeting by asking the committees opinion regarding changes to the IEPI SEM Program application. Because of COVID-19, the IEPI SEM Program will not be available 2020-2021. The program is offering two options moving forward, cost for these is between $2,000 to $3,000. L. Minor asked the group to think about it while they discuss “unknowns”, item#2.

2.             Discuss current situation of “unknowns” in enrollment management planning

L. Minor reminded the committee of potential projects discussed in previous meetings. V. Jacobi would like to focus on Professional Development rather than a specific project. V. Jacobi asked about capacity & where the college is in that regard. JRE talked about 2008 & how the district faced similar economic issues back then. V. Jacobi reminded the group that Grant Funds played a huge roll in those times. S. Getty talked about the influx of students during those times. TC Athletics suffered tremendously; non-credit courses were among the first things to be cut. Discussing these “unknowns” will help identify potential projects. A resource that might help enrollment is “Early Alert” (Banner) Early Alert was used for a brief time but not everyone was “on-board” and it slowly went away. JRE talked about student’s familiarity with meta-majors & how the Major is interest based. V. Jacobi shared the MATH success of our TUHS student population.

L. Minor asked for a final tentative choice for the IEPI SEM Project:

L. Minor, Option 1 (option 3 as second choice)

V. Jacobi, Option 1

S. Getty, Option 1 (option 3 as second choice)

W. Martinez, Option 2

C. Duron, Option 1

J. Rangel-Escobedo, Option 1

L. Minor will share this Strategic Enrollment Management plan with Governance.

Meeting adjourned.
