Christopher Chung-Wee

Dr. Chung-Wee is Professor of English at Taft College. He says, “You might wonder how a Caribbean-born, South American-raised, ethnic Chinese man ended up teaching English at Taft College.” Dr. Chung-Wee remembers paying $20 for a loaf of bread in his home country. He also recalls the bitter cold at the University of Toronto and earning a teaching certification at the University of the West Indies in sun-drenched Barbados. Then, there was Brigham Young University for his Master's Degree, where he swore never to open another book of literary theory.

The call of English was too insistent to resist, and he found himself at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a public research university, opening more books crammed with literary theory. It led to Dr. Chung-Wee’s receipt of a Doctoral Degree in 2003. After 14 years of high school teaching, he moved on to college teaching. He came to Taft College in 2001, where he says, “Here I am, with the best job I've ever had, and loving it. Yes! Your dreams can become a reality!”
