General Education SLOs and ISLOs Vicki led the discussion on GE SLOs and gave a brief history. The committee discussed the possibility of combining assessment efforts to cover both ISLO and GE SLOs. More discussion will be had in future meetings. This topic will be a subject for fall inservice activities.
Fall Inservice – August 13 thru 17 The committee agreed to have SLO Day on Tuesday August 14, 2018. Breakout sessions will be finalized prior to the end of this semester.
Course Sequencing – Majors Vicki listed the missing areas for course sequencing within majors. Brandy will check her files for those who turned in their forms. Vicki discussed the pathways to degrees that counselors put together that will be linked in the SmartCatalog.
Other The committee once again discussed the issue of English 1500 as a prerequisite and how faculty can ensure our students are writing at the level they need to when taking certain courses. A suggested solution is to build modules within Canvas (or another application) for students to use as a resource to help them through the writing process when taking courses such as History, Art History, and other other courses that require writing skills. The hope is to find funds to offer release time to faculty to “build” this resource. The hope is to have a unified resource that all faculty can use in order to maintain consistency in methodology. This discussion will continue in future meetings.
Next Meeting: March 16, 2018 from 8:10 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the Cafe Conference Room unless otherwise notified.
Respectfully submitted by Brandy Young
