Minutes for August 18, 2020

 

Welcome & Introductions

President Payne welcomed faculty and shared that there were 2 new faculty members; Natalie Woodall, EOPs/CARE Counselor and Kristy Richards, Career Development Counselor.

Approval of Minutes

A motion to approve the minutes was made by Diane Jones with a 2nd from Kelly Kulzer.  The motion was unanimously approved.

President Payne introduced this year’s officers and bargaining team.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer, David Mitchell, reported an overall balance of $4349.98. David shared that new member forms and CTA membership cards would be mailed out.

Fall Faculty Evaluations

President Payne reported that modified faculty evaluations will be conducted to adhere to social distancing and change of modality due to COVID-19 limitations but within the same timeline.  Faculty could expect the peer review committee to have limited access to the Canvas shell and online student evaluations, with the goal to keep the evaluation as normal as possible.

Faculty Annual Notice

President Payne reported that all faculty members should expect to receive their annual notice that indicated the salary class/step and salary.  President Payne encourage faculty to check it for errors. 

Sick Leave and Flex Statement

President Payne reported that all faculty members should expect to receive their annual flex/sick statements by September 1st.  President Payne encourage faculty to check it for errors.

Meeting with Administration

President Payne reminded faculty of the right to FA representation when meeting with administration.  President Payne encouraged faculty to stop the meeting and request to reschedule if FA representation was needed.

CCA Conference Attendance

President Payne reported that the annual conference was held via an online format at zero cost. Greg Golling attended and shared CTA promoted a new app called CTA GO which could be used to track memberships and benefits.

Taft College Faculty Collective Bargaining Committee (TCFCBC) Update

  1. Contract for 20-23
    President Payne shared that the contract was ratified in May and is pending signatures.
  2. Compensation 20-21 and Retro Pay

President Payne shared that a review of the Frey Report indicated that with the 2.32% increase in order for the faculty contract will remain in compliance. The bargaining team and administration reached consensus for approval of salary increase to meet the contract.  Brock McMurray reported that there had been a delay for budget approval and expected for the budget to be approved in October with a retro pay calendar to be provided as soon as the budget was approved.  A motion for ratification of the salary increase for compliance with the Frey Report was made by Diane Jones with a second from Darcy Bogle.  The motion was unanimously approved.

  1. Voluntary Severance Package

President Payne updated the faculty that administration had elected to not offer a severance package for this academic year.

  1. Sabbaticals for 2020-21

President Payne updated the faculty that an email from the President had already sent out a notice that no sabbaticals would be available for this academic year.

  1. 2019-20 Agenda Topics

President Payne opened the floor for faculty recommendations on bargaining topics. Hearing none, faculty were encouraged to email in any proposed topics.

Other

President Payne reminded faculty of the closure of the Testing Center.  Joe’ll Chaidez new assignment is as CTE Counselor with 80% counseling/20% testing for students with DSPS accommodations.

President Payne shared she forwarded an email that CCA Board District D has an opening and virtual attendance will be requirement. Interested faculty were encouraged to apply and contact CCA for additional information.

Joy Reynolds inquired about the 4-day work week plan for Distance Education support since the campus would be closed on Fridays and working remotely on Thursdays.

Terri Smith shared that the Library would be open for student on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the Fall term.

Lori Sundgren shared that the Learning Center would be available to students Mon-Weds for in-person services with remote access on Thurs-Sunday on scheduled availability.

Robin Polski shared that Canvas support was available at 1-866-551-4903.

President Payne indicated that committee leads were sending out surveys regarding faculty availability for committee meetings and faculty should email any concerns regarding missing services due to Friday closure to the VPI and to cc her.

Tony Thompson shared that Dorms were not available for athletes.

Meeting adjourned at 12:58pm.
