NextUp - Educational Support for Foster Youth Students
NextUp provides support services for current and former foster youth students who were in foster care on or after their thirteenth birthday. NextUp supports our foster youth students in achieving their education goals by providing direct services that our students need to succeed at Taft College.
Services Provided
Students who participate in NextUp receive the personalized support and services listed below in addition to receiving EOPS Services.
- Priority Registration: First to register before other students on campus
- Counseling: Counselors will meet with you every semester for advising
- Book support
- Meal support
- Transportation assistance
- Emergency housing assistance
- Employment assistance
Eligibility and Application
- In court ordered foster care on/after thirteenth birthday;
- Under the age of 26 at the start of the academic year;
- Be a California Resident - AB 540 Eligible/Dream Act;
- Complete an EOPS/CARE/NextUp and CalWORKs application and attend a mandatory orientation;
- Verification of current or former foster youth status (Ward of Court Letter).
