Minutes of March 30, 2016

 

Call to Order

President Diane Jones called the meeting to order at 12:11 pm.

 

Approval of Minutes

Mariza Martinez made a motion, seconded by Michelle Oja, to approve the minutes of the February 24 meeting. Minutes were approved as presented.

 

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Ruby Payne reported that the balance in the association account is $10,222.60 after today’s lunch.

Taft College Faculty Collective Bargaining Committee (TCFCBC) Update

Non-Credit vs. Credit Loads

President Diane Jones reported that following a second reading in the March meeting, the Board of Trustees approved our memorandum of understanding (MOU).

 

Retiree Benefits for New Hires

President Diane Jones reported the Board of Trustees gave our memorandum of understanding (MOU) a first reading in the March meeting. It will go back for a second reading and potential vote in April.

 

Adjunct Clarification Language Related to Article 6

President Diane Jones reported that consensus was reached in the last TCFCBC meeting on this issue. Michelle Oja made a motion, and Adam Bledsoe seconded, to ratify the following language:

 

6.1.3 Temporary or adjunct faculty members are paid hour for hour (1:1) when teaching a general lab, extensive lab, or lecture course.

 

The motion was ratified by unanimous vote.

 

Contract language for professional development hours for Adjunct Professors

President Diane Jones reported that this issue was discussed in the last TCFCBC meeting. The goal is to codify what has been happening with adjunct teaching faculty, and to establish a process for adjunct counseling faculty. Discussions will continue on this issue.

 

Other

President Diane Jones congratulated the following faculty members on attaining tenure: Dr. Jennifer Altenhofel, Dr. Eric Hershkowitz and Dr. Michelle Oja.
