Treasurer’s Report

Cash Balance and Membership Forms

Treasurer Ruby Payne reported that the current balance in the association account is $6166.84. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Faculty Association should see Ruby and pick up a new member form. Ruby will be dispersing membership cards this week.

Conference Expenditures

President Diane Jones informed the association that her expenditures amounted to $164 of the $400 approved in our last meeting. Ruby’s paperwork from CTA was delayed. She has just received it and will be submitting for reimbursement soon.

Scholarship Donation

President Diane Jones reported that Jack Gallon retired over the summer. He chose a scholarship donation over the customary chair. A motion was presented by Darcy Bogle and seconded by Robin Polski to donate $200 of association funds to a scholarship in Jack Gallon’s name to be paid in May 2013. Motion passed by unanimous vote.

Taft College Faculty Collective Bargaining Committee (TCFCBC) Update

Interest Based Bargaining (IBB) Training

President Diane Jones reported that the bargaining team and administration are in two days if IBB training. We will use an actual topic for this afternoons training.

Health Benefits

President Diane Jones reminded the association that this topic will come up again this year.

Voluntary Severance Package

President Diane Jones reminded the association this issue is discussed in each August TCFCBC meeting. Anyone considering retirement should contact Diane.

Overload Sick Leave

President Diane Jones reminded the association that earning sick leave for overload assignments is now in place. The language we agreed to states that accrual of overload sick leave would begin July 1, 2012. If you taught summer courses you may have received an overload sick leave statement with an unusual number of sick leave hours earned. Diane also reminded members to use the contract personal necessity leave first if you need to take a sick day. After that, or for donation purposes, use overload hours before normal sick leave hours.

2012-2013 Agenda Topics

President Diane Jones reported that several topics were presented in our IBB training today. Topics include: health benefits, division chair duties, non-teaching faculty loads, adjunct/overload pay, $500,000 board challenge, GASB, retirement language, salary, and notification of longevity. No new topics were presented by association members. Diane reminded members to contact her or other bargaining team members if issues should arise.

Benefit Brochure Handout

President Diane Jones distributed the CTA Member Benefits Highlights pamphlet.

Other

President Diane Jones reported that in her opinion it is crucial to K-14 education for proposition 30 to pass this November.

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 12:41 pm.
